Three Space tourism projects that are currently underway

SPACESHIPTWO (Virgin Galactic)

Richard Branson's company Virgin Galactic, started in 2004, is the world’s first commercial spaceline company.

  • It is currently working on commercial space flights with its 'Spaceshiptwo' craft. Its aim is to send very rich tourists into space within the next few years. We are yet to find the confirmed ticket prices for a round trip around the earth. Virgin Galactic passengers will depart from Spaceport America, the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport. It was opened in New Mexico in 2011. WhiteKnightTwo, a jet-powered cargo aircraft, will climb to an altitude of 50,000 feet before releasing SpaceShipTwo, a spacecraft that will bring passengers on the final part of the journey/

  • SpaceShipTwo will travel at three and a half times the speed of sound, propelling the passengers to space. The amateur astronauts will then leave their seats to experience weightlessness. The whole trip will last two hours. The spacecraft is expected to carry six passengers and two pilots.
  • Saudi Arabia, intends to take a significant stake in Virgin Galactic, Virgin Orbit and The Spaceship Company with an investment of approximately $1bn.

    BLUE ORIGIN

Started in 2000 by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

  • By 2014, Bezos had invested over US$500 million of his own money into the company. Blue Origin's new space Shepard rocket is re-usable, launching five times and landing it safely. No other rocket has ever been used even twice.

  • Bezos has predicted 50 to 100 launches a year for Blue Origin alone in the not-too-distant future. Blue Origin, says its planning to take customers into space within the next 18 months—or by April 2019. It’s still unclear how much the 11-minute ride is expected to cost.

    VOYAGER (World View)

The Arizona company, World View Enterprises, will provide a six hour flight around the earth.

  • Ticket prices are confirmed to start at around $75,0000 for each passenger.

  • This will be done by high-altitude balloons that can take people into the planet’s stratosphere. A crew of eight will float up to the stratosphere in a capsule. The vehicle will have giant windows, a small bar, a bathroom, and Wi-Fi so passengers can post their pictures of the real-time sunrise.
